Southeastern Mass Adult Walking Club- Headwaters and Herring

Join us for a 2 mile springtime walk in wooded terrain with a variety of aquatic habitats along the way. The trail is mostly flat with a couple of small hills. We traverse pond and river shorelines, abandoned cranberry bogs and vernal pools. We’ll encounter an amazing cattail marsh that is the headwaters for the Quashnet River, the largest above ground source of freshwater flowing into Waquoit Bay. At the fish ladder we’ll look for herring migrating from the sea to lay their eggs in the fresh water pond.
Please park at John’s Pond Park, at the end of Back Road in Mashpee. There are no facilities on-site. Please bring drinking water and a snack. Dress for the weather with sturdy footwear. Parts of the trail may be wet. The Adult Walking Club is always open to new members ages 16 and up. For additional information call or e-mail-, 508-457-0495 ext.125
