Description: Recent storms have removed tons of sand to reveal the long hidden and buried remains of what was once a coastal plain forest on the ocean side of South Cape Beach. Join Research Coordinator Dr. Chris Weidman on a beach walk on South Cape Beach to explore the tree stumps and discuss the geologic history of this area. Participants will learn about the forces at work on the Cape’s beaches and get a peak at the recently uncovered maritime forest exposed by recent storms that opens a window into the future of climate change by revealing the past . Be prepared to walk approximately two miles over sand wear comfortable walking shoes, bring water.
