Microplastics in the Salt Marshes of Waquoit Bay: A Story of Urbanization & Plastic Waste

Description:

Thursday, April 9
An increasing number of studies confirm the presence of microplastics (particles smaller than 5mm) in almost every single ecosystem on Earth. Dr. Lloret has been studying microplastic pollution in the estuaries and marshes of Waquoit Bay. His results show that microplastics have been accumulating in Waquoit Bay salt marshes over the course of several decades. Why is this happening and what are the implications?
Javier Lloret, PhD, Research Scientist, The Ecosystems Center, Marine Biological Laboratory

Join us for an informal evening learning about innovative research happening around Waquoit Bay. Each week you will learn from a different scientist about how they do their research, what they are discovering, and how it applies to today’s issues.

Coffee & dessert provided.

Doors open at 6:00PM. There is no charge for the series, table seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
